ODIA CINEMA IN 2020
Odia Film Industry has always struggled hard to cope with the situations no matter what. Odia Film Industry was hit the maximum after the 1999 Super Cyclone. Especially the theatres in Odisha were damaged by the cyclone in a huge number. There were nearly 300 theatres in Odisha which came down to less than 150. Those damaged theatres were never reconstructed, because no one dared to take up the expenses, as the traditional people in that business were now scared of returns.
Last year in 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic hit the industry a lot. All the film halls were closed due to Covid 19 Pandemic. During this pandemic many halls were closed permanently. In 2020, only three films were released in theatres, and the trend of tele-cinemas started in a huge number. After lockdown the Centre had allowed cinema halls to operate at 50 per cent seating capacity. And people still have the fear in mind and prefer watching cinemas on TV screen and mobile phones now.
The films that were released in theatres in 2020 are Mun Paradesi Chadhhei, Babu Bhaijaan and Queen. Nearly 6-7 films were released over television screens. Golmaal, Anu didi, Lucky Ra Lockdown Lovestory, Durgatinasini and Tu Mora Saathire, are few of the tele-cinemas, premiered over Television screens.
It is only when a movie made on a big canvas, that people can be drawn to the cinema halls but of course after the situation is in absolute control.
